When to visit your Veterinarian!!

When to call your Veterinarian!

Dr. Collins from Shadow Creek Veterinary Clinic visited Meadowlake this past Tuesday to advise our staff on when he recommends to take pets to the vet concerning certain issues. These recommendations are helpful but Dr. Collins cautions that “none of them should take the place of common sense.”

Hotspots and Other Skin Irritation
When you notice the irritation, if possible clip the hair around to see the actual size of the wound, how irritated it is (redness) and if there is any discharge. If the wound appears larger than a dime, has discharge, appears inflamed, or is particularly painful, the animal should be examined by a veterinarian.

Lacerations and Puncture Wounds
All lacerations and puncture wounds that break through the skin should be examined by a veterinarian.

Diarrhea
If the diarrhea continues for more than 36-48 hours, is extremely watery, or has blood in it, the pet should be examined by a veterinarian. A pet should also be taken to a veterinarian when experiencing diarrhea if it stops eating or it’s rectal temperature is greater than 102.5 o r less than 99.5 .Pets with diarrhea should be isolated if possible and abrupt diet changes should be kept to a minimum.

Eye Problems
If a pet is holding his/her eye shut or his/her eye seems painful, appears red, or has discharge/slime, it should be examined by a veterinarian.

Vomiting
If a pet vomits but appears to be acting normal, withhold the next feeding and then return to the normal feeding schedule. If the pet continues to vomit, is running a fever, or seems lethargic consult a veterinarian.

When caring for your pet, it is always best to be cautious and seek advice from a veterinarian if you are unsure of an animal’s condition.

Dr. Collins takes a trip to Meadowlake Pet Resort!

Dr. Collins takes a trip to Meadowlake Pet Resort!

Dr. Collins educates Meadowlake's staff.

Dr. Collins, from Shadowcreek Veterinary Clinic, comes to Meadowlake Pet Resort once a month to educate our staff on important topics/issues that are currently prevalent in the animal world. At Meadowlake, we strive to provide the highest quality of service and care to our clients and guest. In order to do so, we constantly educate ourselves to better care for your pets.

Dr. Collins visited Meadowlake on Wednesday August 1st to talk to our staff about various topics involving parasites (fleas, hookworms, heartworms etc.) that could potentially harm dogs and cats. He informed us about where these parasites can originate from, how to possibly avoid the situation and the proper steps of how to treat/handle the situation if it occurs. After listening to the Dr. Collins and watching an informative video, the floor was opened up for our staff to ask Dr. Collins questions concerning different topics.

As we mentioned before,  it is essential for our staff to be informed but we also place a big emphasis on client education. The more our staff can educate clients on these issues, the more we can do as a community to help keep our furry      friends safe!

Our staff will continue to educate ourselves in order to provide the highest quality of service and safest environment for our clients and guests!

Meadowlake values all the information and advice we receive from Dr. Collins! If you would like more information about Dr. Collins or Shadowcreek Veterinary Clinic, visit http://www.shadowcreekvet.com.

iPad Applications create a feline frenzy!

Actual kitty artwork by Olivia M.
Meadowlake Pet Resort is happy to announce a new play activity for their feline guests called Apps for Cats on the iPad. Apps for Cats includes 5 fun filled activities where cats chase and paw at mice, laser pointers, and bugs!  "The purpose of these applications is to create mental stimulation as well as physical activity for your cat during his stay," Director of Pet Services for Meadowlake Pet Resort, Laura Koch explains. "The kitties will also chase the mouse in the Paint for Cats App and go home with a print-out of their artwork created during their stay! We are happy to provide this type of service for our cat guests and Meadowlake will continue to add play options that imitate the activities the pet is used to while at home.  Meadowlake strives to keep that ‘home away from home’ experience for our clients and their pets!"
